How It All Began

Two Worlds, One Journey: A Love Story Across Oceans

Some love stories start with fireworks. Ours is a story of how it all began with a quiet spark. A hesitant decision to meet for a date that neither of us could have predicted would change our lives. Two people, from two very different worlds, taking a leap of faith into the unknown.

The First Meeting: A Shy Beginning

When Sebas and I first met, it was like two worlds colliding—his vibrant Colombian energy meeting my European pragmatism. We had connected online, and while I was curious, there was still a hint of doubt. Could someone I barely knew from a place so far away be the one?

Our first impressions set the stage for an exciting adventure. I found Sebas irresistibly cute, and the fact that he spoke English felt like a door to connection. For Sebas, meeting someone with an English accent was a new and funny experience—sometimes leading to misunderstandings that made us laugh (and occasionally scratch our heads).

It wasn’t until the next day, when we decided to visit a museum together, that things began to change. As we wandered through the exhibits, something shifted. The barriers of language and culture started to melt away, replaced by curiosity and a growing sense of connection. This was no ordinary date—this was the beginning of a journey neither of us could have anticipated.

Moments That Changed Everything

Our time together in November 2022 was fleeting—just ten days before I had to board a plane back to Amsterdam. But in those ten days, something extraordinary happened. When I left, it wasn’t just with memories but with a feeling I couldn’t shake: this wasn’t the end of our story.

From that moment on, Sebas and I became inseparable, even from a distance. We texted every day, often deep into the night, sharing pieces of our lives across time zones. By February 2023, our conversations turned into dreams of Sebas visiting me in Amsterdam that summer.

But life wasn’t always kind. Early in 2023, I faced unimaginable loss. First, my beloved cat passed away, and then, that spring, my father. It was a time of darkness, but Sebas became my light, offering unwavering support despite being thousands of miles away. He was the steady presence I needed, even when all we had were words on a screen.

When Sebas finally arrived in Amsterdam in July 2023, it felt like the universe had conspired to bring us together. Those weeks were a whirlwind of colour and joy—Berlin Pride, the vibrant energy of Amsterdam during Pride, and the ultimate test of our bond: a road trip to Spain.

It was on that trip, driving through the sun-soaked landscapes of France and Spain, camping under star-filled skies, and exploring hidden gems along the coast, that we truly fell in love. Away from the noise of the world, it was just us—two souls discovering the depth of what we had.

The Challenges That Tested Us

Every adventure has its trials, and ours was no different. Trust was a mountain we had to climb, especially in the early days. How could we truly believe in each other when we were separated by oceans and time zones?

Cultural differences also added a layer of complexity. Sebas, with his Colombian rhythm and warmth, often found my European approach reserved and fast-paced. It wasn’t always easy to bridge the gap, but we learned to dance to each other’s tune, finding harmony in our differences.

The distance made everything harder. Deciding to make our relationship official felt like stepping into uncharted territory. Were we ready for this kind of commitment? Did we have what it took to make it work?

But with every challenge, we found strength. In December 2023, I visited Sebas in Bogotá, experiencing my first Colombian Christmas surrounded by his family’s warmth and love. It was a new world for me, but one that felt like home because of him.

Turning Points and Realisations

By June 2024, after six months apart, doubts began to creep in. Could we sustain this connection? To find out, we agreed to take a one-month break from communication—a risk that felt both terrifying and necessary.

That month was a revelation. Each day without Sebas felt like a piece of me was missing. When we finally reconnected, it was clear: we didn’t just want this; we needed it.

Our last summer apart, in 2024, was filled with unforgettable moments. We celebrated Pride Amsterdam together one final time, followed by a whirlwind weekend in London, where Sebas fell in love with the city’s charm. Every moment reinforced our decision to finally reunite for good.

The Adventure Continues

As December 2024 approaches, our journey enters a new chapter. No more long-distance calls or painful goodbyes—just us, together, building a life filled with love, adventure, and endless possibilities.

Our story is one of resilience, trust, and the kind of love that defies borders. From shy beginnings to grand adventures, we’ve learned that the best stories aren’t the ones that come easily—they’re the ones you fight for, the ones you live for, and the ones you never give up on.
